Adidas Originals is celebrating the transformative spirit of the time when East and West Germany became one, marking a new era of freedom, inclusiveness, diversity and equality. In commemoration of this event, the brand has released a limited edition reversible jacket in collaboration with Hamburg agency Jung von Matt/SPORTS. The jacket is inspired by six “Wallbreakers” of today, who share their personal stories and courage in breaking down walls, both physical and metaphorical.
The social media hero movie and three episodes feature German personalities such as musicians Sido and Trettmann, Bibiana Steinhaus, the first female professional referee in Germany, Wana Limar, a moderator, video creator and member of Visions for Children, David Mallon, the Creative Director and Founder of the Souvenir Official label, and Michael Fritz, the founder of Viva con Agua. These personalities tell of their experiences fighting against prejudices and societal expectations, promoting cohesion among women and the influence of music as a reflection of society.
The reversible jacket features street names from Berlin on the front, symbolically linked by the zipper and the words “Breaking Walls” on the back. The inside of the jacket provides information about the inner German border, such as the length of the wall, the number of watchtowers and successful escape attempts. The guiding principle of “Breaking Walls” not only holds historical significance but also current relevance in a society driven by change.
Adidas Originals is providing a platform for these culturally and socially relevant personalities to share their personal stories and inspire others to break down walls in their own lives. The limited edition reversible jacket serves as a reminder of the transformative spirit of 1989 and the ongoing importance of breaking down barriers in society.
