On Sunday, November 10th, Drake made an unexpected appearance at Tyler, the Creator’s Camp Flog Gnaw Festival, but the reception he received was far from warm. Despite speculation that Frank Ocean would be the headliner due to his close relationship with Tyler, the audience booed and whistled at Drake, leading him to cut his performance short by 30 minutes.

The grace with which Drake handled the situation was remarkable and in a recent post on Instagram he responded to what happened humorously, saying “Plot twist…just signed a 10 year residency at Camp Flog Gnaw sorry kids see you EVERY SINGLE YEAR till you are 30”. He also said to a friend that it was “a moment of humility”.
Tyler, on the other hand, was severely disappointed by his fans and took to Twitter the next day to express this. First, he changed his Bio:
Then he outright addressed the situation and called his fans out.
I THOUGHT BRINGING ONE OF THE BIGGEST ARTIST ON THE FUCKING PLANET TO A MUSIC FESTIVAL WAS FIRE! BUT FLIPSIDE, A LIL TONE DEAF KNOWING THE SPECIFIC CROWD IT DREW. SOME CREATED A NARRATIVE IN THEIR HEAD AND ACTED OUT LIKE ASSHOLES WHEN IT DIDNT COME TRUE AND I DONT FUCK WITH THAT

Tyler, on the other hand, expressed severe disappointment in his fans through a Twitter post the following day. He updated his bio to reflect his dissatisfaction. The fact is, the audience’s disrespect towards Drake was also disrespectful towards Tyler, who intentionally chose him as the headliner. Not only does this disrespect Tyler’s musical taste, but it also tarnishes his reputation.
THIS NIGGA DID FEEL NO WAYS! SONG IS BEAUTIFUL. ALSO, MOSTLY EVERYONE WAS HAVING A GREAT TIME, THOSE SHITS IN THE FRONT AREA WERE THE ONES BEING MAD RUDE, WHICH, I CAN SEE WHY, BUT, NAH, FUCK THAT, YALL REPRESENTED ME AND FLOG TO MY GUEST AND MADE US LOOK SOOO ENTITLED AND TRASH

The thing is, even if you’re not necessarily a fan of someone, this is just not how you treat people. It is rude, arrogant, spoiled, and completely out of line.
THAT SHIT WAS LIKE MOB MENTALITY AND CANCEL CULTURE IN REAL LIFE AND I THINK THAT SHIT IS FUCKING TRASH

I’m glad Drake took it lightly but this type of behaviour should never be condoned and it can be harmful too. So practice empathy. And even if you don’t love the artist performing you should have respect for their work and their art. Although Drake handled it well, such behavior should never be encouraged as it can be both harmful and damaging. Let us practice empathy and demonstrate respect for artists and their work, even if they may not be our personal preference.

The audience received their deserved consequence when they stood there, looking like a group of clowns waiting in vain for Frank Ocean. Hopefully, they have learned a valuable lesson and perhaps gained some human decency in the process.
